Spring Fighter Pilot - Ink & Pastel, 2023
Jane’s commissioned personalised artwork,
Spring Fighter Pilot, was completed on special request for a young lady who at the time had sadly missed out on purchasing a similarly themed artwork titled Bomber Pilot. The client, having loved the original artwork so much, made contact and requested that Jane capture the childhood story of her experience with overprotective nesting magpies in the Australian Spring, together with one memorable clash where she was forced to abandon her bicycle and school bag.
Below is the artwork’s description, together with the client’s personal inspiration and story behind the completed artwork, ‘Spring Fighter Pilot’.

'Spring Fighter Pilot' Artwork completed in ink line and pastel: The artist, inspired by childhood memories of 'battles' fought and often lost against nesting magpies, together with the requested addition of a trail of discarded possessions, indicates that the magpie has effectively protected its young, sending the human child scurrying to safety. A touch of satire is present in this piece, where the magpie wears a bike helmet adorned with zip ties, inventive defenses, often employed by 'humans' in their attempt to protect themselves against the magpie's maternal and paternal Spring wrath.
Original ‘Bomber Pilot’ artwork, sold at exhibition 2023.
